GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Our program aims to provide quality martial arts training in an inclusive and growth-oriented environment. We have adopted the following goals and objectives:
Provide a setting in which a child may make friends and are challenged through new experiences.
Develop a child’s respect for self and others.
Develop the social, cognitive, creative and physical skills and abilities of a child 4. Develop the child’s sense of well-being.
Provide positive role models and a quality mentoring relationship with your child. 6. Provide ongoing leadership training where the child can feel well equipped to take on leadership roles within the community or Revolution MMA in the future.
Our programs are committed to responding to the continuing changes in our community, meeting the needs of the children and their families, and continue to be the leader in children and youth programs.
HOURS OF OPERATION AND CLOSURES.
Revolution MMA After School Program will be open Monday-Friday from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. The after-school program will not be in effect during the summer months (July and August), during winter break, spring break or during any professional development days administered by the school or STAT holidays. Parents or legal guardians are required to find alternative care for the children during these specified times.
Our program will be able to accommodate early dismissal days. As these days vary from school to school (or district), it is the parent's responsibility to inform the program director of any early dismissal days. However, we do keep up to date with all available public information to do with the schools we service. In the case of early dismissals, we look to engage the kids in games as well as physical activities and training before the formal Jiu Jitsu/ MMA/ Kickboxing class.
In the event of severe weather conditions, such as heavy snowfall, the afterschool pick up portion of our program will not operate if public transportation is deemed too dangerous. It will then be the parent’s responsibility to drop their child off to our facility if their specific school is under operation.
In the event of a power failure or water main break, our facility may be unable to open or may be required to close early. When possible, parents will be notified of a potential closure or will be called if the facility must close earlier than the scheduled time. In the case of an emergency where it is unsafe for children to be in the facility (such as a fire), the children will be transported to a safe location off premises where at that time all parents will be notified immediately.
OPTIONS FOR THE PROGRAM
We provide 5 options for pickup:
Schedules for which combinations of days must be scheduled beforehand with our program director.
FEES
Fees are due on the first day of every month (either automatic withdrawal or paid in person) for a contractual period of 10 months (September-June) unless a written agreement has been drafted prior to the signing of this contract. Failure to make payment may result in suspension or termination of the child's enrollment in the program. If you run into any problems or errors in payment, please speak with our program director. Pre-authorized payment is required.
Each package is a commitment until the end of the school year (June) unless otherwise communicated to the Program Director prior to signing this contract. A cancellation fee of one month’s fees will be required as a cancellation fee if the parent/guardian were to cancel the services of the after school program before the end of the school year. The program does not have free vacation or illness time. If your child is enrolled in the program, full monthly fees must be paid to retain their spot.
TRANSPORTATION
Revolution MMA will provide shuttle transportation from your child’s school directly to our facility. However, please note that due to possible changes in the number of children enrolled in our program, there will be adjustments made to which schools we are able to pick up from in a timely manner. As part of our program currently, the timing of pickup will be expressed beforehand to parents or legal guardians but may be subject to change. A Notice of 24 hours will be given prior to a change being made. In the future, if your child changes schools, our program director must be notified to determine whether accommodations to that school will be available. All parents/guardians of children being transported must check the transportation box below. Revolution MMA will ensure that transportation will adhere to Federal, Provincial and Local bylaws and regulations. Pickup will be arranged for a specific time at the school determined by the parent and the program director upon registration and will occur between the time that your child is dismissed and the time that that school supervision ends. If the shuttle is going to be more that 15 minutes late, the program director will contact the school to inform them of the delay. In the event that public transportation is cancelled due to weather that is deemed unsafe (I.e. snowfall or ice) transportation will be canceled for the day and parents will be contacted. It will then be the responsibility of the parent to pick their children up from school. At all times there will be a certified responsible adult driver that is certified with a minimum of 20 hours of training. Our staff will also hold a first aid kit and emergency information for all children on board. We provide ICBC approved booster seats, but if your child is requiring a specific model, it will be your responsibility to provide one that adheres to ICBC safety standards.
CHILD GUIDANCE POLICY
Punishment of any kind including physical, emotional, exclusion and humiliation, is strictly forbidden. Appropriate child guidance methods include:
Discussion of problems and/ or re-direction.
Opportunity for the child to make his/her own choice with emphasis on positive reinforcement.
This policy is discussed verbally between the Program Director and the parent/guardian upon the child’s registration.
Staff recognizes each child as an individual in regard to age, stage of development, temperament, and culture. Staff guides the children’s behavior using prevention and intervention strategies. Staff use their knowledge and skills to ensure that children’s self-esteem is enhanced. All staff of the program are aware of this policy. The Program Director discusses it with staff and uses it as a tool in the hiring process as well. A written copy is given to all staff as part of the hiring manual.
RELEASING CHILDREN
Children will be released only to parent(s) or persons designated by the parent/guardian, upon authentication, if required. The parent(s) upon registration completed a release form. Only those listed on the release form may pick up the child. Parents will be required to sign their children’s
emergency contact sheet and make changes to it immediately if anything were to change. Emergency contact persons listed will still need verbal or written consent to pick up the child. In exceptional circumstances, the parent(s) may require a person not listed on the release form to pick up their child. In this case, a verbal authorization must be administered to the program director over phone call or in person. The delegate must provide identification before the child is released. All persons whether pre-authorized or special pickup will be required to show picture identification if they are unknown to the staff on duty. Taxicab drivers or Uber/Lyft drivers are not classified as authorized or special pick-up persons. Therefore, unless prior arrangements have been made to authorize pickup by a specific driver, a child will not, under any circumstances, be released.
CUSTODY AGREEMENTS
In the case of custody disputes, each parent will be granted access to the child(ren) except when a copy of a court order indicating limited access is on file. Such information will be included on the child’s emergency contact sheet. It is the responsibility of the parent/ guardian to produce a court order indicating limited access.
LATE PICK-UP POLICY
Children must be picked up by the end time of the program (6:00 p.m.) by the authorized pick-up personnel. If the child is not picked up by gym closing time (6:00 p.m.), and the gym has not been advised of authorized pick-up personnel tardiness, the following procedure will be employed: Parent will be phoned at home, work, or cell at 6:00 p.m. in the event that the parent or authorized pickup personnel cannot be located, the emergency contacts will be phoned and asked to pick-up the child(ren). If neither the parents, authorized pick-up personnel or emergency contact are able to be reached by closing time (9:00 p.m.), Emergency Social Services (Child Protective Services) will be phoned and asked to take custody of the child(ren). Should it be necessary to contact Emergency Social Services, Parents will be informed that their child(ren) can be located through Emergency Social Services and or the RCMP.
IMPAIRED PICK-UP PERSON
The following guidelines have been recommended by the RCMP: If a staff member has reason to believe that a parent or pick-up person has had anything to drink or has ingested any drugs and cannot safely operate a motor vehicle, they will:
Request that the individual leave their vehicle and arrange alternate transportation.
2. Ask the individual to leave and phone alternative/emergency contact to pick-up the child(ren).
If the child is removed by the pick-up person, immediately call the police with a description of the vehicle, the individual's name, license plate and home address.
Report the incident to the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
ABSENCE/ILLNESS
If your child is absent from our program, please notify us as early as possible. If your child is not well enough to train, please keep them at home until they are feeling better. Please be reminded that our facility does not refund fees due to illness. Depending on the nature of the illness and the amount of time away from the program, we may need a doctor’s medical clearance (written) to re-enter the program. As part of our effort to minimize exposure to any illness we have outlined strict rules that we require be followed by parents and members alike. These are non-negotiable and are taken seriously due to the nature of our sport and the close proximity that it entails.
Members experiencing symptoms or have been diagnosed with such things (but not limiting to) flu or the common cold are asked to not participate in class for at least 5 days after they have started to experience symptoms. They are still welcome to come in and train separately from class. Please wipe down all equipment that has been used.
If a member or child has been diagnosed with anything bacterial, viral, or fungal, they must stay at home until their doctor gives them clearance. A medical note must be provided to administration for clearance back to class. If a child or member attends class without being cleared, we will follow the procedure listed below:
The member or child will be separated from class and asked to sit out for the remainder of the class.
The child’s emergency contact or parent/legal guardian will be contacted to discuss the situation.
If we are not able to reach the emergency contact or parent/legal guardian, the child will be asked to sit out until their parent is present.
At the same time, the parent(s)/ legal guardian will be re-administered the facilities procedure and may request a medical note by the next class before being allowed to re enter the program.
If a child or member is spotted by an instructor or employee to have an abnormal rash, skin infection, or any kind of visible irritation that has not been expressed to the staff, the child or member will be given things to work on separately from other students. To prevent infection. We ask that they get checked by the physician before returning to class.
Injuries or Concussions
If a member or child sustained an injury or concussion during either training or elsewhere, we ask that you treat the injury and concussion with absolute care and to follow your physicians' recommendations. Although you are welcome to still train through injuries, we ask that you exercise awareness of your injury or condition. If you have sustained a concussion, we highly suggest that you stay away from physical activity for the timeframe outlined by your physician. Please speak directly with our instructors regarding any injuries you have sustained while training.
MEDICAL POLICY
Emergency medication should be easily accessible for the child and the instructors alike. Please let us know of any medication needed and where it is located.
Procedures:
All medication must be accompanied by a medication form that will be signed by the parent/guardian. The medication forms must include the following information: Child’s name, medication name, dosage, time, date, and parents signature. The staff who administers the medication must complete the medication form. The staff member must include the date, time of administration, the name of the medication and have it accompanied by a signature.
Only staff having a valid first aid certificate will administer the medication.
Staff can refuse to administer medication if there is no clear instructions provided or for anything they are not trained on.
All prescription medication must come in its original container, with the label intact containing the following information: the name of the medication, child’s name, date of issue, instructions and time period.
Over the counter medication will not be administered. It is the parents responsibility to administer over the counter medication prior to the child attending the program. 6. Emergency Medication: All children requiring emergency medication needs to have it provided by the parent/guardian.
ACCIDENT/ ILLNESS POLICY
If your child is seriously injured, we will contact you immediately. This includes possible broken bones, bleeding lasting more than 10 minutes, injuries requiring stitches or injuries to the head/back/neck. In some instances, the child may need to be taken to the hospital by the program director by way of the gym's business vehicle. If a severe injury, or illness occurs, an ambulance will be called, and the parent will be responsible for the cost of the ambulance. If the parent/guardian or emergency contacts are not able to be contacted and your child requires immediate medical attention, the staff member responsible for seeing that they receive the appropriate care until a parent can be contacted will follow.
a. Program Director
b. Coaches on staff
All injuries must be documented on an incident report form. Include date, time, child’s name, description, how the accident occurred, any first aid performed, and the staff member reporting it. This will be signed by the parent and kept on file. If the child becomes ill at our program, parents will be contacted and asked to come pick up their child or make arrangements for another family member or emergency contact to pick up the child. Until the parent is able to do so, the child will be able to lie or sit down somewhere quiet.
NUTRITION
The program is not a peanut free zone, we will do our best to mitigate any peanuts or tree nuts from the premises but we cannot guarantee a peanut free zone.
CHILD ABUSE
Child abuse is anything that endangers the development, security, or survival of the child and consists of physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. We have legal responsibility to report all suspected child abuse to the RCMP and or the Ministry of Children and Family Development. This includes past, present, or probable future abuse. All employees are required to let the Program Director know of any suspected child abuse.
